It is a group of volunteer men and women in your community, working together to better the lives of youth in their community. They have the support of an Optimist International which provides guidance, personal development training and opportunities for youth targeted programs but they have the autonomy to offer programs that work best for the youth in their area.
There are currently 9 Optimist clubs in London and each of them has tailored their programs and fundraising to meet their individual interests and communities' needs. Programs vary from Oratorical and Essay contests, cooking meals at Ronald McDonald House, hosting a Canada Day celebration, holding breakfast with Santa events, sponsoring a Junior Optimist International Club, partnering with schools, and many more. Their fundraising events are just as varied and include hosting a trivia night, holding a Valentine Dance, holding silent auctions, operating licensed bingos and on and on.
Our club was "chartered" on April 29, 2021 and received its official status within the Optimist International family of clubs. executive board consisting of a President, Secretary-Treasurer and a Director. The board conducts the business of the club with regard to social functions, fundraising and programming. The Optimist Year runs from October 1 to September 30th. Each April the club will elect a new board that will be sworn in and take control of club business the following October 1st. Our club will reach out to our community to identify needs that will have a positive impact on youth.
